Freelancer | Freelancing

7 dark realities that freelancers will face

after leaving the company.

Life after retirement is a battle against survival in the wild.

What kind of life will we face after leaving the company?

I often see people around me who recently quit the company and declare themselves as freelancers.
I have lived as a freelancer since my 20s, so I am familiar with the physiology and the atmosphere of the field, but when people who are planning to leave the company ask what it is like to live as a freelancer, I get out of breath and speechless.

This is because the reality that we will face after leaving the company is a series of things like battlefield, survival, and self-fighting. Today, I would like to talk about the situations that will happen to freelancers after leaving the company based on my own experiences.

Fact 1.

Honestly, it is completely wild outside the company.

Freelancers seem to literally mean'people who work freely and unrestrained', but in order to actually survive outside the company, individuals must have tremendous capabilities. Honestly, even though I am writing like this, it is difficult for me to look ahead.

Thinking about the future is daunting, and because you have to deal with eating and drinking right now, you are under tremendous stress and pressure. The freelance market is really a series of fights to'survive'. Who do I have to fight? It is a fight against the invisible future, that'anxiety'.

To earn outside the company, you have to be an individual who is superior to anyone. In particular, in order to raise the ransom, if you do not have three beats in your skills, PR skills, and your own channel, there is a high possibility that you will continue to do things that everyone can do at low pay, and simply work. Too much has to be done as well as all-around. Outside is the wild itself.

Fact 2.

You have to pay taxes constantly.

As a freelancer, your profits increase, and when you work with large companies, the time to register your business comes. At this time, if we register as a business, we will be in a swamp of tax filing from then on.

There are so many different types of taxes that I have to report a year, how much I actually earned, how much did the other party take off my tax invoices, what are my actual sales and profits, how much tax I have to pay because of it. Be aware of that.

In the case of me, who is weak in numbers, I have a separate agency. Nevertheless, I can't guess how much the next tax will be paid. So, I tend to collect 20% of the profits I earn each time in a separate bankbook, but that way, there will be no negatives later. Like office workers, the tax rate goes up as much as they earn.

Fact 3.

You have to keep shoveling.

In order to find a job as a freelancer, we hold meetings with several companies, and one or two of them lead to actual contracts. In the beginning, if you meet 10 people, only one or two contracts will be signed.

Considering my early days as a freelancer, I spent a ton of time just meeting people. However, the contract does not proceed in proportion to the number of meetings. In other cases, there are companies that give missions, and there are many companies that they are going to do this and that, but when they bring a plan, they look at it and talk about it.

In my case, I do not write a separate proposal or proposal after I have accumulated some experience. It only suggests directions on the spot when necessary. It is not easy to work hard enough to give an idea and document it without paying any cost from my standpoint of receiving an hourly fee and consulting.

However, if there is no awareness at the beginning, you should receive any work. The reason you need to change your work style later is that you often take away ideas and don't actually do things. For now, I show my reference and talk only about how it would be nice to create content with this or that topic, and all detailed plans after that are contracted and designed.

Fact 4.

Anxiety about the next job

Even if the contract was concluded due to a good talk with the client, it is only 3 months, at most 6 months, and 1 year. At the end of this period, there are cases where the contract is renewed, but in general, the company also devises a new strategy and finds other companies that match the strategy. Therefore, I can't help but think about a new job every 3 months.

My body is one, but when I suddenly get too much work, problems arise. This is because if you try to digest too many tasks, even one task can't be pulled out properly. That doesn't mean you can't even give the client the waiting number 1 vote? These situations need to be well coordinated and organized. (But it doesn't work)

Fact 5.

Instability from an ever-changing environment

The client and work keep changing. In my case, I have been working with companies in different industries, but if I worked with a franchise company the other day, I suddenly work with a fashion company, and sometimes with a cosmetics company.

Then, there are many cases where you don't know about the physiology of the karma, but there are many new insights you get when you actually start working, but the stress of adapting to a new environment each time is not easy. Also, as the business partners keep changing, the person in charge keeps changing. The unhappiness and happiness of the contract period depend on who the person in charge is.

Fact 6.

Uncertain deposit date

When you go to work, there is a set day when your monthly salary comes in. But freelancers don't have anything like that. Deposits are made according to the circumstances of the company or on the date specified in the contract. Some companies make deposits a week after the contract is signed, but some companies deposit the deposit on the last day of the month two months after the contract is written. (It takes a total of 3 months)

Therefore, it is impossible to develop a financial plan. I don't know when the money I worked on this month will be deposited. There are even companies that often eat up the balance. (In the case of myself, the sum of the money not received is about 15 million won)

Fact 7.

Fighting Prejudice Looking at Freelancers

When we say freelancers, people think of people who are free, free, and working leisurely. I think it is because the word free is in the name, but in fact, life as a freelancer is not free at all. You have to think about your work all day, sometimes thinking about solving problems throughout the weekend all night long.

So, people who don't know the way freelancers work tend to vaguely say,'You work comfortably.' But we are never free at all. Until the end of the contract period, work and I must be connected 24 hours. It's unfair, but we have to fight the word free and the prejudices it gives.

(ex. "Hey, since you're a freelancer, it's comfortable because you work from home and don't go to work. If I go to work, my boss blah blah blah blah~)

Life as a freelancer is literally wild and you have to fight anxiety amidst anxiety to survive, to survive. Even in situations where you are sometimes frustrated, sometimes lonely, and sometimes wanting to die, you have to show your professional spirit to complete the work with the contracted company well. Also, even if career and skills are accumulated in the future, they will win big jobs. In the end, labor and effort must be invested in the amount received.

It looks like a pink future will unfold after leaving the company, but when you enter it, you will see a bright red blood instead of pink. It is a world full of blood from wounded and failed individuals. In that, we should be grateful for surviving today and lead the unhealed wounds toward tomorrow. That's the rule of survival in the jungle, and this is the reality that freelancers will face.
